Jon Butler, La Cloche Photographer:

Jon Butler, a retired newspaper executive who changed his clothes to enjoy the passing seasons of life, has been capturing La Cloche light for over 30 years. He concentrates on solitary and contemplative landscapes and atmospheric effects.
The photographs exemplify Jon’s unique sense of light. Exhibition photographs are usually taken at dawn before sunrise with no filters or digital enhancement.  All are in a limited series of 10 or less.
Jon’s ‘Photo Haiku’ combine his photographs with original haiku. A haiku is the expression of temporary enlightenment, in which we see into life and in this case it is La Cloche.

Jon and his wife Kerry live in the village of Willisville located in the heart of the La Cloche Mountains. They are founding members of the La Cloche Mountains Preservation Society and the Willisville Mountain Project, dedicated to preserve Willisville Mountain and the beauty of La Cloche. In 2011 Jon published the book ‘Visions of La Cloche, Contemplating La Cloche with Words and Photographs’.

Jon’s photographs are available at Turners Gallery of Little Current, The Art Gallery of Sudbury gift shop, Killarney Park Store, www.lacloche.ca, and The Red Dog Whitefish Falls. Since 2001 Jon has had seven solo exhibitions, three two person shows and participated in 50 juried and group exhibits.

“Much of the subject matter that I photograph portrays my interest in architecture and heritage. This interest is reflected in my urban and rural landscape photographs. Polaroid film is frequently used in my photographic endeavor to create images that appear painterly or surreal. Abstract imagery is also an area of interest”
