Toronto, Canada (May 22, 2014)—Paul Bronfman, Chairman/CEO of Comweb Corp. and leading equipment provider, William F. White International Inc. (Whites) and David Anselmo, CEO of Northern Ontario Film Studios (NOFS) in Sudbury, today announced the signing of an agreement that will see the creation of a new partnership for Northern Ontario. This collaboration is in direct response to the increased production volume in the region and aims to strengthen and empower the entire local film community by providing access to Whites’ state-of-the-art equipment and technical expertise.

“Northern Ontario is a rapidly growing hotbed for production,” stated Paul Bronfman. “With their attractive regional incentives, unique shooting locations and industry leaders such as David Anselmo, we now have all the pieces necessary to better support productions of all sizes throughout Northern Ontario.”

Whites’ new location will occupy space within the Northern Ontario Film Studios facility while offering the same cutting-edge equipment and expertise. Also, through Whites Education and Training program, this collaboration will benefit local production professionals who will now be able to access Whites’ popular seminars and workshops – to be held on site at NOFS – providing trainees with hands-on experience with new equipment and technologies.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Whites to the Northern Ontario Film Studios,” said David Anselmo. “This partnership will create a Northern presence, putting the resources necessary for Northern productions close at hand, making the region more cost effective and attractive to filmmakers worldwide.”

Matkai Burmaster-Hansen created a summer arts camp called Verve Drama Camp in the city not so long ago, but refuses to sit still.

His company, Verve, recently launched a new project called Verve Next which is a new theatre initiative where artists from 16-29 create an entire original theatre production from the ground up based on what they want to “speak up” about.  Burmaster-Hansen is starting this new initiative along with Mathew Henry, a peer who studied with him at Sudbury Secondary School’s Arts Education program.

“Throughout history, theatre has pushed boundaries, it’s been a place where artists really speak up about the issues that matter to them” says Burmaster-Hansen.

The local arts group is fundraising online through a site called Kickstarter.com where individuals and local businesses can support the project by making a pledge to help them reach their $5,000 goal.  If the group does not reach the full goal by June 8, all funds are returned to the donors.  It’s an all-or-nothing fundraising campaign.

New Youth Program: Verve Next

As you may know, we recently launched our new program for youth called Verve Next.  This program will offer youth 16-29 the opportunity to create a devised theatre production about something that matters to them.  We didn’t want financial barriers to prevent youth from participating, so this program is FREE for all youth.

In order to make this possible, we need your support.  We are raising funds through our Kickstarter campaign.  If you can make a pledge for any amount over $1, it would be so very much appreciated.
