David Anselmo/Hideway Films

David Joseph Anselmo was born in Sudbury, Ontario, far from any connection to show business. After studying Law, Psychology and Theatre at Sudbury’s Laurentian University, he travelled abroad, heading to Europe to expand his acting repertoire with smaller theatre groups and productions.

A chance visit to a friend in South Korea would prove to be a kickstart to a seven year stint in Korean television and film, notably appearing in The Host (2007), R-Point (2004) and Welcome to Dongmakgol (2005), for which he gained 20 pounds and shaved his head to play a special forces commander.

In 2011 he returned home to Canada and formed Hideaway Pictures, with an eye to develop television and film opportunities in Northern Ontario. He doubled down on his commitment to his hometown’s film prospects, opening the Northern Ontario Film Studios, Northern Ontario’s first film production hub. The studio started big, playing host to 5 productions in its first 5 months of existence, and attracting notice from Playback Magazine and The Hollywood Reporter.

In 2012, Mr Anselmo serviced his first production in Northern Ontario “Cas & Dylan”, starring Richard Dreyfus and directed by Jason Priestley, produced “Be My Valentine” for the Hallmark Channel starring William Baldwin, and an independent feature with partnership from Telefilm entitled “The Privileged”. In 2013, he served as Executive Producer on two films for the Hallmark Channel – “Christmas with Tucker” and “Star Spangled Banners” filmed in North Bay- as well as Co-Producer one of the biggest features to come to Northern Ontario, “Ice Soldiers”, an Action feature for Sony Pictures International starring Dominic Purcell, Adam Beach and Michael Ironside
