Sudbury Blues for Food


Each June in Greater Sudbury, the summer season officially begins with the annual Downtown Rotary Blues For Food. Help fill the cupboards at the Sudbury Food Bank and help the needy of our community.

Admission to the event is non-perishable food items or cash donations. All proceeds are donated to the Sudbury Food Bank. Since its inception, Blues For Food has raised more than $75,000 and 70 tons of non-perishable food items for the Sudbury Food bank.

From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. visitors can enjoy a wide variety of music, food and events. The kids will have their hands full with the interactive arts area, face painting, caricature artists, pony rides, clowns and magicians, bouncy inflatables and all sorts of other activities. The Investors Group serves up delicious barbeque throughout the day while the Rent & Party Labatt Refreshment Tent is open for all of the thirsty 19+ crowd. On the main stage, R&B acts keep your fingers snappin' and toes tappin' all afternoon. Parking is free at all municipal lots and meters and at the Rainbow Centre. The LaCloche art show and sale at the Whitefish Falls Community Centre showcases contemporary artists and more than 220 juried works of art on display. Every year the show has an exceptional group of talented local and international artists who have captured their subject matter in painting and photography. Visitors will enjoy both the exhibition of art and the beautiful La Cloche region.

This is a juried show, with work in various media including oil, acrylic, pencil, watercolour, pastel, analog and digital photography, and sculpture. Subject matter is varied and includes art showcasing the La Cloche area, which was made famous by Canada's Group of Seven.

Artists include Ivan Wheale, Taimi Poldmaa, Beth Bouffard, Debra Lynn Ireland and Vivian Ripley, with photography by Jon Butler, Sarah Warburton, John Knox, Peg Forbes and John Savage. The public is invited to come and visit the show, held at the Whitefish Falls Community Centre. There is no admission fee. Doors are open daily. Whitefish Falls is located halfway between Espanola and Little Current on Hwy 6.

 Annual Sudbury Gem and Mineral Show


Northern Ontario’s Largest gem, mineral, fossil, rock craft and bead show takes place at Carmichael Arena, 1298 Bancroft Dr.

Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for seniors and $1 for children 6-12 years of age. Children five and under are free. Weekend passes are also available and you get three days of fun for the price of two.

Come out and enjoy dealers, displays, demonstrations, hourly door prizes and a grand door prize (an amethyst geode valued at $500), kid�s activities, a silent auction, a video theatre, free samples and information, mineral identification services and an outdoor swapping area on July 22 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  A barbeque takes place Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parking is free.

The Manitoulin Art Tour takes place at 24 locations throughout Manitoulin Island. More than 50 artists  with venues are open daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The annual Canadian Garlic Festival


This year's garlic festival takes place  at the Ukrainian Seniors' Centre in downtown Sudbury (across from the Rainbow Centre). It's food, fun and entertainment for the whole family.

Sunday is a day of garlic nibblers and family fun. Whet your appetite with garlic soups, salads, spreads, bruschetta, balabushky, hrechanyky with sauerkraut, garlic chicken, garlic cheese balls, kobasa shish-kabobs, pyrohy, cabbage rolls, beans in garlic sauce, vegetarian garlic chili, ice cream with chocolate garlic sauce, garlic fudge and garlic cookies. Nibblers are approximately $1 each. Entertainment will be provided by musicians, dancers, garlic braiding workshops, and the Garlic King himself! Admission to the festival grounds is $1 per person.
